June 1st is National Pen Pal Day

Today is National Pen Pal Day in the United States but that doesn't mean the rest of us pen pals scattered around the world can't observe such a great day too.

This holiday was started by Rosie Tholl, an avid pen pal and a very nice lady. She has a great love for the written word and has been writing to people around the world for over 40 years. Rosie has been involved with many pen pal gatherings over the years including pen pal picnics and also larger gatherings like Pen Pals United which was held every other year from 1992 to 2008.

I've been doing some writing today and also concentrating on my second postal tea party. Yes, you read that right, I'm having a long distance tea party. I've happily been putting together my little parcels to go out in the post to my guests. My last tea party celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012 and this tea party I'm working on will be in honour of the Queen's 90th birthday. There will be tea parties hosted throughout the country this month to mark the Queen's special day so I thought I would host one too. I'll write more about the actually tea party in another post.

Whatever you're doing today, take a moment out and write a little something to someone.

  1. Trying to catch up on all the blogs I've missed during my online absence. Thanks for reminding us. I'd love to meet a pen friend for lunch or a picnic, but only in my dreams. I'll settle for mailing my Christmas gifts and trying to write a few postcards.

I love your Postal Tea Party. Rosie started something that should catch fire and burn forever. I treasure my wicker picnic basket and look forward to having a tea picnic if Erin comes home this summer. Thank you again.

I look forward to your next post and hope to tell you about my obsession with QEI. I still believe QEII is QEI reincarnated. :)

Be well. And Happy National Pen Pal Day!

  2. Limner! Lovely to hear from you. My tea party parcels have all been dispatched and I will write a post about it when everyone has received them. I like the idea of sharing these sorts of things through the post.

Oooh, I have an obsession with QEI too. I have read everything I can get my hands on about her. I hadn't considered QEII being directly connected. We'll have to discuss this in a letter, I'm intrigued.

  3. Yes! We really must. I was obsessed with her when I was a teen and young adult. Read every book I could find--fact and fiction.

Oops! I had to cut and save my rumination about their connections. I put them on a Sticky to save for our QEI-QEII letters. :) I especially like the father - son stamps of William and George. Will there be a Mom a Kate and Charlotte stamp?

I must come up with a letter tea party. Hmm. I'm afraid I'd be the lone epistle-writer. No! I forgot my idea of a Barnes & Noble letter writing social from last year. That's something for me to consider when I'm able to drive again. Thanks for the inspiration.

I look forward to your post. I'll use my wicker tea set. :) Thank you for a gift that keeps on giving.

  4. I look forward to your QUE I & II thoughts. Did I mention I have a QE I colouring book? I have at least 30 books on QE I and some on her father and other Tudors. Total obsession, I fear.
